By Road: The National 1, from South to North, and the A-8 toll motorway, from West to East, articulate the territory. The Madrid-Irun N-1 road enters into Gipuzkoa through the Etxegarate Pass and passes near Beasain, Tolosa, Andoain, Donostia-San Sebastián and Errenteria before getting to Irun and arriving at France. The creation of diversions to avoid crossing the urban areas has improved the traffic during the last years. The A-8 tool motorway covers the distance between Bilbao and the Behobia Quarter of Irun, and is the best way of getting to Bilbao or of moving through the comarcas (lands) of Gipuzkoa's coast. Another basic road is the Andoain - Irurzun (A-15) toll-free motorway that joins Gipuzkoa and Navarre. The AP-1 toll motorway, which will communicate Eibar and Vitoria-Gasteiz and is at present under construction, will complete the main network. |
